The Saskatchewan Conservation House created in one of Canada's coldest provinces was a ground breaker for its time.

This early foray into energy efficiency created a house that in 1978 could be heated entirely with a hair dryer.

Remarkable for its time windows were triple glazed, early solar panels were employed, insulation was increased dramatically and insulated shutters on some windows were part of the reason for its tremendous early success.

Now that early home, has long passed from the consciousness of most Canadians. The newer Passivhaus contains some similar designs.
