about window treatments is a treasure to behold for it is filled with surprising elements like the valance below... made from antique rolling pins. What a great idea for a kitchen! Away from the conventional and towards the unexpected, as we begin to turn our homes into ART. Which is always as it should be.

Many of these valances speak for themselves. Their seeming simplicity add beauty in an understated but vibrant way. This  finishing touch makes the entire area look more like a painting or a frame for a landscape. Which makes it ART once again.

What makes this classic fabric in the picture below look modern and lively is the juxtaposition.  Here an old world neoclassic pattern combines elegantly with written words on a sheer roller blind. In an age where we are being asked to change more rapidly than at any other time in history... this elegant combination seems like ART to me.

This is a little more conventional but the choice of fabric is not. This curved valance with its tailored edge and flat box pleats is a masterful and modern. This valance absolutely makes a room. Yes, valances recall earlier days, but this treatment revolutionizes the look.

One last word about valances. If they don't make a statement don't bother. They can be as stimulating and playful as this one, or as demure as the valance immediately above. They are a demarcation between the world outside and the world we create within our own homes. Sometimes a valance might indicate that the inhabitant within is not just unconventional and playful but absolutely fearless.
